Another place to visit is our capital, Lisbon, that sits on the side of the Tejo river and is a cosmopolitan, vibrant and modern city that still holds the memories of days gone by. It’s still the same old Lisbon, filled with history, monuments, Fado (portuguese traditional music), filled with it’s amazing light!

While you’re in Braga or Guimarães, just next to the Spanish region of Galiza, why not adventure yourself into Santiago de Compostela? Home for one the most important Cathedrals in Spain, and a major pilgrimage destination in the World, where every day you can witness the arrival of hundreds of people from around the planet.

This day is dedicated to visiting one of the most charming and enchanted regions within the National Park of Peneda-Gerês, the only National Park in Portugal and a part of the Portuguese-Spanish border. In this dense forest and lush landscape, the wildlife is also part of the day, so don’t be surprised to see some squirrels, deers, boar, buck or even a golden eagle. From the Castle of Lindoso, one of the most important medieval military architecture monuments, that played an important role in the conflicts during the early stages of Portugal as a country with the then Kingdom of Castela (modern Spain), during the 13th century; we see the villages of Soajo, Parada and Lindoso. Wander around the three villages that keep the charm of ancient times, with its cobblestone streets and typical Alto Minho housing. This is also home to the highest concentration of “espigueiros” (typical corn drying storage units) in the country, that were and in fact still are used on an everyday basis by the population that lives here.Discover “Poço da Gola” waterfall, with its clear waters, still nowadays a secret unknow to most people. By lunchtime, enjoy the traditional “cachena” beef, from a local breed, considered one of the smallest in the world, traditional from high mountain lands.Before calling it a day we visit Lóbios, a spanish village, with its thermal hot springs with water at 70ºC, and pass by Vila do Gerês where we can get to see some traditional handcraft as well as products of local gastronomy, such as honey and cheese.

For this Lisbon day tour, we suggest visits to: St. George’s Castle and typical neighbourhood alleys of Alfama , the birth place of ‘Fado’ (Portuguese traditional music, classified as World Heritage); visit to the Belém area, launching point for the Portuguese discoveries, dotted with significant historic monuments in a beautiful open riverside setting and calm atmosphere. Here we’ll taste the world-famous and unique ‘Pastéis de Belém’ (custard tarts, fresh from the oven); traditional trade area, with buildings from the 18th Century; Baixa, the heart of the city and rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake with beautiful cobbled streets, named after the artisans who traded in the area. Many architectural styles are represented, including a unique ‘Gustave Eiffel’ designed ‘elevator’, still in working order; Chiado, traditionally home to many of Lisbon’s intellectuals, artists and radicals and recently restored after a devastating fire. This Fátima day tour will give you an unforgettable experience while traveling to the unique atmosphere of the Shrine of Fátima and discovering the welcoming people, the typical crafts, the rich gastronomy, the traditions, the aromas and flavours that characterise this fine Western Region. Centuries of history and mountain/ocean landscapes are waiting for you! During the morning, we’ll visit the Shrine of Fátima. Here you can visit the Basilica, as well as the Chapel of Apparitions and the Church of ‘Santíssima Trindade’ – the heart of the Shrine – and the shepherd houses (Marto’s Family House and Lúcia’s House). Free lunch time in Fátima. We suggest a traditional local restaurant. Our western Portugal tour continues towards one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of the day, Batalha Monastery, along a road with a magnificent landscape. Then we’ll go on towards Nazaré, Portugal’s most famous fishing village, now also becoming important as well in the surf world, because of the “big wave phenomenon”. A 30m wave at “Canhão da Nazaré” is the tallest wave ever recorded being surfed.

The Santiago de Compostela tour include the sightseeing tour of the city, visiting the “Monte del Gozo” (the place from where pilgrims first get a view of Santiago), if you want, it’s possible to do a short walk along the “Camino”, as true pilgrims, visiting the outside of Ciudad de la Cultura (planed by american architect Peter Eisenman). Free time to see the historical city center including: The 4 Squares of the Cathedral, the main streets of the historical city center (Franco, Vilar, Nova, …), the Abastos Market, the Pilgrim’s Office and Alameda (the best sightseeing point in Santiago).
